The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes seeks nominations for its 2010 awards. The Barron Prize honors young people between the ages of 8 and 18 who "have shown leadership and courage in public service to people and our planet."
Each year, ten national winners receive $2,500 each to support their service work or higher education. Half of the winners have focused on helping their communities and fellow beings; the other half have focused on protecting the health and sustainability of the environment.
Nominees must have participated in their heroic work within the twelve months prior to the nomination deadline of April 30. Nominees must be legal residents of, and currently residing in, the United States or Canada. Nominations are invited from adults who have solid knowledge of the nominee and his or her work but who are not related to the nominee. This can include teachers, librarians, civic or religious leaders, among others.

IMPACT Health Care grants fund a range of projects, from mobile clinics that provide healthcare to children, to training physicians on women's heart disease symptoms, to improving the lives of Hispanics with diabetes. The current focus for the IMPACT Health Care grants program is on community-based health clinics and outreach programs.

Funds can only be used in the incorporated limits of the City of Clearwater. However, an agency that is located outside the City may receive funding if they provide documented services for City residents. These funds will primarily be used for housing, community and economic development activities. CDBG funds must be used to address one of the national objectives of the CDBG program: a) principally benefit low- and moderate-income persons; and/or b) eliminate slums and blight. In addition, a project must also be an eligible activity under the Federal regulations of the CDBG program. These activities include acquisition of property, relocation of occupants of property acquired, rehabilitation and preservation of property, public facilities and improvements, clearance, public services, home ownership assistance, match for other federal programs, code enforcement, economic development, removal of architectural barriers, historic preservation, and interim assistance.
HOME funds may be used for home ownership assistance and for acquisition, construction and/or rehabilitation of housing which is affordable to low- and moderate-income persons, including supportive transitional and permanent housing for special needs populations.
ESG funds are used to provide services to the homeless, operational funding for shelters, and rehabilitation of facilities for the homeless.

The Social Innovation Fund (SIF), a new public-private investment vehicle established by the 2009 Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, is designed to: 1) fund effective and potentially transformative portfolios of nonprofit community organizations to help them strengthen their evidence base, and replicate and expand to serve more low-income communities; 2) identify more effective approaches to addressing critical social challenges and broadly share this knowledge; and 3) develop the grantmaking infrastructure necessary to support the work of social innovation in communities across the country.
Nonprofit community organizations will be competitively selected by SIF intermediaries and receive subgrants to: 1) produce measurable outcomes within a specific issue area or geographic region; 2) evaluate their effectiveness; and 3) replicate and expand to serve more individuals and communities.
The Social Innovation Fund Competition is now open and accepting applications for Federal funds to invest in effective, innovative nonprofits working in low-income communities to address critical social challenges in the priority issue areas of:
- Economic Opportunity – Increasing economic opportunities for economically disadvantaged individuals;
- Youth Development and School Support – Preparing America’s youth for success in school, active citizenship, productive work, and healthy and safe lives; and
- Healthy Futures – Promoting healthy lifestyles and reducing the risk factors that can lead to illness.

Assistance is available to Pinellas County residents age 60 and older who have a home heating or cooling emergency and whose income is below 150 percent of federal guidelines. |
