Michael Amidei has announced that the 2010 Tools for Schools backpack and school supply distribution is set as follows:
When: Saturday, August 7
Time: 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (anyone on-site at 1:00 will be able to access everything available)
Location: Great Explorations Children’s Museum, 1925 4th Street North, St. Petersburg – at the Sunken Gardens site
In addition to getting a backpack, school children and youth will be able to get a haircut, get a physical, receive a clothing referral, get their face painted, have lunch, and have access to all of Great Explorations! All of the services and activities are donated by community groups, including entrance to the museum by Great Explorations.
The event and backpacks are open to homeless at at-risk of homelessness children and youth. Please plan to have the homeless or at-risk families that you work with come to this special day, and thank all the donors for their assistance; last year we had lots of supplies and assistance and not enough kids!
Please note: all children that want to attend and get a backpack must have a referral from your agency on your letterhead. If families working with your agency simply cannot attend, you may secure a backpack and school supplies for them by:
1) Sending Michael Amidei a list of the names and grades of the children needing backpacks (fax the information to him at 727-447-3323);
2) Having someone come to the event and pick up the backpacks if at all possible. If you need to make other pick-up arrangements, contact Michael at 727-543-2600.
I encourage you to get your families to Great Explorations if all possible – it is a really special day for children and youth that do not have many of them at this time of their lives.
Contact Michael if you have questions (727-543-2600) –and give him a big thank you for all his hard work in securing the donations, the backpacks, the stuffing of the backpacks, and the venue!
